OEA Project
(Office of Economic Adjustment)
(Dept. of Defense)

Grant Overview
The Maine Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) is administering a grant from the federal Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA). The funding allows MAMe to work with Maine companies who are dependent on defense-related work to diversify into non-defense sectors. As part of the deliverables, participating companies will receive warm leads & introductions to potential customers outside the USA in non-defense sectors. Currently 6companies are being served with more in the pipeline! Our target is to assist ten companies. This assistance will begin with an assessment that leads into technical assistance and B2B lead generation. Overall, a problem is first identified and then fixed!

Partners: DECD, MMEP, MAMe

To learn more, contact MAMe at info@mainemfg.com

Skilled Workforce Needed in Maine and
across the United States

"Many high school students rush off to four-year campuses not ready for the academic work or not sure why they are there. Government data show that 44 percent of new graduates enroll directly in a four-year college, but based on recent trends, less than half of them will earn a degree within four years. And though two-year colleges have long been identified as the institutions that fill the job-training role, some 80 percent of community college students say they intend to go on for a bachelor’s degree, or they leave with generic associate degrees that are of little value in the job market."

Your Voice in Augusta

MAMe is ready to hear your voices and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

MAMe’s Legislative Committee has defined a strategy for the 128th Legislative Session.

MAMe’s Legislative advocate Zachary Lingley of Preti Flaherty is meeting with the MAMe Legislative committee and is recommending that we focus on bills that are not overly partisan and have a better chance of passing in this very divided Legislature. We will be monitoring all bills that affect the priorities set by MAMe’s Summit feedback – Energy Costs, Taxes, Minimum Wage, and Workforce Availability; MAMe’s Committee will determine if and how to engage.

Much of January’s activity in Augusta has been centered around the legalization of marijuana bill.  A newly appointed Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee of the 128th legislature will be reviewing over 30 bills related to marijuana.  Drug testing in the workplace and workforce education are topics of interest to our membership and we are weighing our options for participating with the Committee to assure that employee safety and productivity are strong criteria for any legislation.

We will launch a direct connection between members and your local legislator. MAMe will provide a template so you can share info about your company that relates to issues in manufacturing and the impact on legislation.

Please let your Legislators know what is important for your business.  Let us hear from you on our priority areas.

If you have any particular topic you wish to know more about or want to provide feedback for, please call Cathy at the MAME office 207.747.4406 or email her at cmsnichols@gmail.com

Steve Tenney, UBS Wealth Management

"Selling or transferring your business is an involved process. It can be easy to get caught up in the complexity of each successive step to the extent that you lose sight of why you’re taking those steps in the first place. Instead of letting the process drive the execution of your plan, take a step back and clarify your goals and values before moving forward. Doing so can give you a much better shot at crafting a successful plan for the next phase of both your life and your company's existence."

Did you know the 3 major goals of the Manufacturers of Maine Group Trust are to help support a strong loss prevention program, reduce worker’s compensation rates and return surplus funds to the Members?

The Manufacturers Association of Maine and the Manufacturers of Maine Workers’ Compensation Group Trust formed a partnership in 2007 to operate in cooperation with each other to the mutual benefit of their members and the general manufacturing community in Maine.

The Manufacturers of Maine Group Trust was formed in 1993. Its membership includes 21 Maine based manufacturers. The group trust provides workers’ compensation coverage to its members.
Since 1993, the Group Trust has returned just over $9 million dollars of surplus insurance premiums to its members.
