Brad Jackson

It is with sincere sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Brad Jackson. Brad was instrumental in the Manufacturers Association and economic development world in Maine, Canada and beyond. He co-wrote the state’s OEA (Office of Economic Adjustment/DoD) grant that allow MAME to provide diversification services to member that are defense impacted. He was the author of MAME’s BRE (Business Retention and Expansion) current plan to assist Maine existing manufacturers with the many services that the association provides, along with our public and private partners. Most recently, MAME launched the B2B Lead Generation Services with Jackson Associates and RCI out of Montreal. His impact on the manufacturing community was phenomenal and he will be sorely missed by all.

MOUNT VERNON - 1959 – 2018. Brad William Jackson, 58, of Mount Vernon, died suddenly on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Brad was an economic development professional and retired Army lieutenant colonel who had served multiple overseas tours. He held degrees from Assumption College, Troy University, and the US Army War College, and was a student of military history and war gaming. Brad also served as treasurer of the Mount Vernon Community Partnership Corporation (CPC), and was a member of the town budget committee.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; and their children, Margaret of Hanover, N.H., and Gordon of New York City, N.Y.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.

Skills USA

Each year MAME supports the Gold Medal winners from the SKILLS USA contest held at SMCC. This year we are proud to profile Hua Lin.

Hua Lin is senior from Deering High School and the PATHS Manufacturing Technology Program. He will be representing the State of Maine in the SkillsUSA 2017 National CNC Technician Competition in Louisville, Kentucky at the end of June.

This is not his first gold medal. Last year Hua won the SkillsUSA CNC Technician Gold Medal in Maine and went on to score 12th in the entire USA at the National Skills USA competition.

Hua is a member of the Deering High School Math Team, and his math skills show in the complex mathematical proportions of his designs. Hua also participated in the Deering VEX Robotics Team. Hua has perfect attendance for both his junior and senior year at PATHS, and ranks academically #1 at PATHS and in the top 11 at Deering High School.

Hua has been accepted into the College of Engineering with a major in Engineering Physics at the University of Maine. Hua will graduate from PATHS with Precision Machining Certifications.

If you are interested in learning more about the National Competition or supporting him on his journey please contact, Tim Lippert, PATHS Manufacturing Technology Instructor at lippet@portlandschools.org or 207-874-8165.

A well thought out process and decision has been made to transition the MWPA to the Manufacturers Association of Maine (MAME). This will carry continuity and name recognition for the group and represent the wood products industry in ways that can help expand and growth this sector.

MAME has created a wood products alliance, consisting of our current members. We have a an email list for B2B contract work, resumes and other pertinent information needed for the industry.

Today, 23 MWPA members have joined with us to make a stronger, more vibrant and dynamic wood products alliance. We are still looking for more wood products members to join! If you would like to see our most recent new members, look above!

MAME is providing a number of programs and services for manufacturers across the state including:

  • The MAME Energy Program with Constellation Energy
  • Legislative and Policy Development—a strong presence in Augusta and Washington DC
  • Student and Educator Outreach to develop future workforce
  • Business Development for industry includes B2B contract work (potential contract work to members)
  • Networking and events that bring multi-industries together. We recently had a tour at a wood products company on April 12th, 2018. Shaw & Tenney allowed us to walk through and have a monthly meeting at their facility- look to the top of the newsletter to learn more.

Since January 1, MAME has sent 9 B2B contract opportunities related to the wood products industry.

At the 2018 MFG Summit, we will present the Pine Tree and Pine Cone award to two deserving wood products companies. Lie-Nielsen Toolworks will receive the Pine Tree Award, and Maine Cedar Hot Tubs will receive the Pine Cone!

If you are a current MWPA/MAME member, your dues include a ticket to the Summit. If you are not yet a member, you are invited, as our guest, to this amazing event and the largest gathering of manufacturers in the state! Register at www.mainemfg.com/events

Purchasing Your Power through The MAME Energy Program

Since the late 1990s, millions of power customers in states, such as Maine, have had the freedom to choose their own energy supplier. The Manufacturers Association of Maine (MAME) has endorsed Constellation, as its exclusive energy provider to its members, since 2008. Constellation is the leading competitive energy supplier in America.

A competitive power supplier is a company that purchases power from the wholesale market and sells it directly to the customer. When you purchase your power through a supplier, your local utility still services all equipment, such as meters and wires. But you can pursue pricing options and strategies with competing suppliers. This is a change from the traditional approach where businesses only purchased its energy supply through the local utility.

While there are other options available, we believe that choosing Constellation through The MAME Energy Program presents a unique chance to meet all of your energy needs while also helping the association and its members.

MAME members can manage their energy strategy in new and powerful ways with Constellation's full range of integrated energy solutions. Visit energy.constellation.com/MAMe.
